About the role

thump! is a mobile-first social sports platform. The app is how players find games, hosts run them, and a community gets built one session at a time. As a senior mobile engineer, you'll own meaningful parts of that experience end to end — the feed people open before work, the host tools they rely on Saturday morning, the ten-second post-game rating that makes the trust system work.

You'll work closely with design and product on a small team where the bar for craft is high. Most decisions are made between two people in a Loom or a doc, not in a meeting.

What you'll do

  • Build and maintain core surfaces of the iOS and Android app in React Native (TypeScript).
  • Own performance, accessibility, and motion quality on critical flows like Discovery, RSVP, Host, and Post-Game.
  • Partner with design on the details — gestures, transitions, empty states, error states.
  • Improve the mobile build, release, and QA pipeline so we can ship confidently every week.
  • Collaborate with backend on API contracts and on tradeoffs between client-side and server-side logic.
  • Mentor other engineers through code review and pairing; raise the team's craft bar.

What we're looking for

  • 5+ years of professional mobile engineering experience, with at least 2 years of React Native in production.
  • Strong TypeScript fundamentals and a track record of shipping high-quality consumer mobile apps.
  • Solid understanding of iOS and Android platform conventions, App Store / Play Store release processes, and native module integration.
  • Comfortable owning a feature from product brief to App Store release.
  • Excellent written communication — most of our coordination is async.

Bonus, but not required

  • Experience with Expo, React Native New Architecture, or Reanimated.
  • Experience instrumenting and improving real-user mobile performance.
  • Past work on social, marketplace, or community products.
  • Personal interest in playing the kinds of games thump! is built for.

Benefits and perks

  • Meaningful equity in every full-time offer, explained clearly before you sign.
  • Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision — premiums covered for you and dependents from day one.
  • Four weeks PTO that we expect you to take, plus a company-wide week off in December.
  • Real home-office stipend — chair, monitor, the works.
  • Quarterly in-person team weeks, usually with a pickup game on the schedule.
  • Monthly game stipend toward gear, court fees, and league dues.

Compensation

$180,000 – $230,000 / yr base salary, plus meaningful equity in every full-time offer.

Base salary range for U.S.-based candidates. Final offer depends on level, location, and experience. Includes meaningful equity. California pay range disclosed in compliance with SB 1162.
